Twilight: ECLIPSE

This movie was ok if you've seen the other two. This one actually has some real action in it and a (sort of) plot. You either love or hate these movies, I suppose. Well, not in my case. I have seen the movies once and that's enough. I can't say this is a bad movie but it's certainly not great cinema, either. Eclipse also has sense of humor about it... something you never see in the other movies.

Centurion.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1020558/

This one was a must see for me because I like Neil Marshall's work (ie,The Descent is one of the best modern horror movies).  It's a fictional tale about the fate of the Ninth Legion through the eyes of a centurion.  And it's a bloody tale.  This movie is fun.... and at various points in it, I was having trouble deciding if I should be cheering for the Romans, or the Picts.  It won't win any awards for dialogue, as that was kept simple, as was the character development.  They focus on two characters for the most part (one from each side), the rest are just kind of there to kill and be killed.   The fight choreography was decent.  Better than anything you'll ever see on the SyFy channel.  But something tells me they didn't hire Roman weapons experts because it some places it does look a little sloppy.  Overall, it is a fun movie that is extremely gory.  If the hack and slash films are your thing (like me), then this is one for your collection.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0473075/

Surprisingly good...and I mean that.  I went into this expecting yet another bad video game to movie rendition.  The plot is actually decent (yet predictable at times), the characters have depth, and the fight/action scenes are well put together.   Although Jake Gyllenhaal didn't seem to fit the role as the Prince (IMHO), and it wasn't clicking with me, the movie over all is pretty good.  Speaking of, they actually gave him a name...in the games he was just called 'The Prince', lol.  The set locations and backgrounds are awesome, and does well to give us an idea of what ancient Persia may have looked like.  This was another fun movie.

XMEN FIRST CLASS....

On the plus side its directed by Mat Vaughn.  So we have LOCK, STOCK, & TWO SMOKING BARRELS, SNATCH, and KICKASS (some would count Layer Cake too) to keep our hopes up.  Assuming of course that the common factor that made those movies work was the directing eye of Matthew Vaughn.

Why is it Hollywood makes The Green Lantern and Thor while Chris and Matt make The Dark Knight and XM1C?  I'd rather talk to GC face to face (HER NAME THAT MUST NOT BE SPOKEN) than watch TGL or Thor!  (No offense to Ryan Reynolds)

At first I was unimpressed with the trailor for first class but the more I think about it, even if it's a fail its probably more of a success than Hollywood's bull.

Max Eisenhardt I mean, Magneto should have been my name.

I'm a MARVEL fan but I'm still uncertain how I feel about FIRST CLASS... I want it to be great, and if I hear its good I'll definitely see it in the theater.

But the Britts made it so it's probably good?

Lock Stock was funny as hell. So was Snatch, but I thought Guy Ritchie directed them.

THOR

When I went in this movie, I had told myself I was going to see an action sci fi adventure, not a movie version of a comic. I never really did get into comics anyway. And luckily, with the philosophy I had, I wasnt dissapointed.
The cast was decent. Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Potman, Renee Russo, Idris Elba, and A couple cuties who I dont know their names. Even the other actors who I dont no their names were allright IMO.
The characters were fun, and the villains, the Frost Giants made the movie as far as im concerned.
the story, eh it was doable. I wouldnt recommend going in with the mindset your going to see something intellectually stimulating, thought provoking, or emotionally striking such as Memento, Inception, or the Notebook. But it wasnt as bad as some of the critics have claimed.
The graphics were pretty cool. the different "realms" as they were called, (dont remember the individual names) were interesting. I would like to mention though that 3-D wears off after a while, at least for me. when you first put the glasses on it hits you hard. during the on stranger tides preview Penolpe Cruz puts a sword through a door, and the tip of the sword seems as if its about a half inch from shaving your chin hair. But then as time goes on it seems like the eyes adjust and I didnt get that same in your face sensation I had towards the begining. Still though, it was cool while it lasted

Responding to JJ - yeah, Vaughn didn't direct Snatch or Lock Stock but he did produce them.  I don't know how much of a hands on or off producer he was but hopefully he was a big reason why those they turned out good.

The Quiet American (2002)

I'm glad I finally got around to watching this.  It has been on my list since it came out.  (I'm talking about a real list with movies that wait years sometimes before I scratch them off the list)

Based on the Graham Greene novel of the same name, The Quiet American 2002 version was much better than I thought it would be.  The 1958 version is pretty terrible IMO.

Micheal Caine plays a London Times correspondent living in Saigon during the Vietnamese war for independence in the 1950s.  There he finds love with a mistress and meets an American aid worker played by Brenden Fraser.  Love, politics, terrorism, international intrigue all play a role in this fictional tale of passion and indifference.

If you liked...

THE YEAR OF LIVING DANGEROUSLY
(1982) Mel Gibson,Sigourney Weaver AND ONE OF THE BEST PERFOMANCES YOU'LL EVER SEE by Linda Hunt

SALVADOR (1986) James Woods, Jim Belushi ((A NEWS/POLITICO JUNKY CLASSIC))

THE KILLING FIELDS
(1982) John Malkovich

....You will probably like the Quiet American as it features adventure seeking Americans (or journalists) in dangerous foreign lands during historic times.

7.5/10 for Quiet American

The Hangover Part II

Terrific film! The trio of Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis hooked up again to make comedy gold. Great to see Ken Jeong back as Mr. Chow and the new additions of Jamie Chung and Paul Giamatti were stellar as well.

XM-First Class

Highly recommend it. There's a lot of babe action, especially as it concerns Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, and January Jones.

XMENFIRSTCLASS

The babes are not the only reason I'd see it. They're not even the first or third reason I'd see it.

Singer and Vaughn brought great style to this movie including the action sequences and I thought James McAvoy did a great job of playing Charles Xavier. Fassbender did a good job of playing Magneto but I couldn't help but imagine Joaquin Phoenix as Magneto?

Magneto is my favorite XMEN HANDS DONW and Charles Xavier might be my second (or third after Logan) so the whole story of their split is just what I wanted to see.

Good action flick, there were somethings I kind of cringed at but overall Vaughn has proved once again the British know how to make a superhero movie.   Glad Singer is working is working across the pond instead of throwing his money in the cesspool industry that turns out crap like Transformers.

7.6/10  I was entertained

Magneto is right as far as fictional characters go

First Class was good. I like the whole origins theme throwback. I liked Azaezul, I think hes my favorite mutant in the whole series except for maybe Victor. January Jones had me at attention the entire time she was on screen. Rose byrne surprisingly not some much in this one. I loved how Logan told Proff X and Magneto to go fck themselves upon the recruiting attempt. As much as I did like the movie, I would have probably liked it a whole lot more if it were maybe the third installment as opposed to the fifth. the story was clever, but the whole mutant theme is starting to get a just a little bit old. some of the same stuff is being used over. the subplot of the young mutants feeling out of touch with regular people is the same issue rogue had in the first one. And the mutants who can change appearances for the old bait and switch was used in the original when the Senators stance changed from anti mutant to pro mutant. and again in this one when the general was  duplicated to change his stance on missile placements in Turkey. Am I rambling? All in all it was good, but like I said, 5th installment in the mutant series.
